Bangalore , Feb. 23

EMC Corp, an information storage and management company, on Wednesdayopened its Indian development and support centre in Bangalore with a capacity for a 1,000 people.

The company, which had announced a $100 million-investment in India in November 2003, has about 400 people on board now and the Indian facility would house software engineers from diverse product development teams within EMC, said Mr William J. Teuber Jr., Executive Vice-President and CFO. "Engineering teams at the facility will participate in the entire life cycle of product development, enhancement, sustenance and testing," Mr Teuber said.

"Companies such as EMC and those with operations in Bangalore should also look at setting up facilities or expanding to secondary cities in the State," said the Karnataka Chief Minister Mr N. Dharam Singh. "The State Government's focus is to provide a thrust to the information technology sector. The State would provide all the requisite infrastructure for such operations."

EMC, which began its operations in India in 2000, has business and sales offices in New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Kolkata.
