Software Government - E-Governance Microsoft in pact for Bengali interface pack Our Bureau
Kolkata , Feb. 24 MICROSOFT Corporation India Private Ltd on Thursday signed an MoU with the West Bengal Government for roll-out of a Bengali language interface pack for Microsoft Windows and Office in State Government offices and establishments. Nicknamed `Project Bhasha', Microsoft will collaborate with the State Government for development of customised local language applications and systems integration; building of a pool of dedicated manpower to help implementation of local language computing; and computerisation of various government departments. A Microsoft press release said the company would help the State in setting up a Bhasha Localisation Lab at a premier educational institute. The company will make the necessary investments in hardware, software tools and training material to help developers as well as students interested in developing language-based IT solutions. The company will also conduct training workshops for Government employees. Technical training will be offered to independent software vendors to enable them to develop IT applications in Bengali.
