Tuticorin salt workers plan to go on strike

Madurai , Feb. 24

THE Salt Workers Unions at Tuticorin have decided to go on an indefinite strike over the issue of wages, following the failure in the two rounds of talks held earlier with trade associations, in the presence of the Labour Officer (in-charge) and the Revenue Divisional Officer, respectively.

The unions have been demanding a 40-paise hike on wages for loading 50 kg bundles and 60 paise for loading 100 kg bundles.

The next round of talks has been scheduled for Friday, the sources said.
