Hyderabad , Feb. 24

THE Canadian High Commissioner, Ms Lucie Edwards, said that there is potential for mutual co-operation between India and Canada, particularly in the areas of science and technology-related research.

Speaking at the `XXI International Conference on Society, Environment and Technology: Canada and India' organised by the Indian Association of Canadian Studies today, Ms Edwards said that both the countries could evolve ways to co-operate in the areas of biotechnology, agriculture and various other science and technology areas.

"Canada has too much geography and no history while India has a long history and less geography. Both the countries could particularly collaborate in the areas of seismic forecasts and eruptions in the backdrop of the recent tsunami disaster that impacted several parts in the country and countries in the region."

Complimenting the role of Canadian studies programme in Indian Universities in promoting bilateral relations in the academic sphere, she said that co-ordinated research was possible in many areas.

Mr B. Ramalinga Raju, Chairman of Satyam Computer, said: "Innovation is the driver of development and knowledge the prime mover in wealth creation. The services sector contribution to the global economy is set to grow to about 75-80 per cent in the next 20 years where innovation will distinguish one from another."

Referring to recent misconceptions about off shoring and outsourcing, Mr Raju emphasised the IT industry's role in value creation and helping towards creation of a seamless world.
