Water AP, Orissa to set up expert panel on Vamsadhara project Our Bureau
Hyderabad , Feb. 24 THE State has agreed to set upa joint committee of technical experts to sort out bottlenecks involving the reservoir on the Vamsadhara river near Hiramandalam in Srikakulam district. Expressing readiness for the constitution of such a committee, the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Dr Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, told a delegation of Ministers from Orissa that works on the project would not be stalled under any circumstances. He said his Government would fully use State's share in Vamsadhara waters. The Orissa delegation comprising Mr Suraj Narayanan Patra, Minister for Energy, Information Technology and Tourism, and Mr Rabi Narayanan Nanda, Minister of State for Science and Technology and Water Resources, met Dr Rajasekhara Reddy here on Thursday. While agreeing to set up the panel, Dr Reddy made it clear that works on the project would not be stopped in the name of study by the committee. The Orissa team suggested that the joint committee could look into issues like submergence and the Central Water Commission's clearance. "After its constitution, the committee would meet in Bhubaneswar and Hyderabad. Experts would visit the project site before arriving at a final opinion," the delegation told the Chief Minister. Earlier, the delegation also held discussions with the Andhra Pradesh Minister for Major Irrigation, Mr Ponnala Laxmaiah, , and senior officials of the Irrigation Department, said a press release.
