Dubai eases restrictions on expats' return

THE Dubai authorities have eased the restriction on return of expatriates who have had a six-month ban stamped on their passports following cancellation of work visas, by permitting them to re-enter on visit visas.
Brigadier Saeed Mattar bin Bleilah, Director of the Dubai Naturalisation and Residency Department, was quoted by the Khaleej Times as saying that expatriates whose passports were stamped with the six-month ban following cancellation of their employment visas can re-enter the country on a visit, transit or mission visa.
The ban only prevents an expatriate employee from obtaining an employment visa before the expiry of the six-month period, from the date of the visa cancellation, but they can still enter the country, the report quoted.
The ban is presently stamped on any person whose work visa is cancelled unless the employer requests an exemption, and in the case of certain categories such as doctors, engineers and other professionals. A proposal has also been made to totally cancel the six-month ban ruling, the official said.
