BPCL organises car, bike race to promote `Speed'

Mumbai , Feb. 25

BHARAT Petroleum Corporation Ltd organised a drag race for cars and two-wheelers as part of its brand building for `Speed', its new generation fuel, last week.

The `Speed Run' essentially a drag racing, a form of motor sport popular all over the world is acceleration test over a quarter mile or 402 metres. The participants who clock the fastest time over this distance will be declared the winners.

Some of the finest machines including Ferraris, BMWs, Jaguars, Fords Hondas, Mitsubishis and Lotus in the car category and the Hondas, Kawasakis, Yamahas and Ninjas plus Suzuki Hayabusa, the world's fastest production bike, in the bike category participated in the event.

In bikes, Mr M.S. Ravindra of TVS racing from Bangalore won the maximum number of prizes, 1st prize in three categories and 2nd prize in one category.

The fastest timing of 12.473 Seconds was clocked by Mr J.D. Madan in his Lancer EVO. The maximum number of prizes was grabbed by Neville Poonawala, he got 1st prize in cars 3,000 cc and above category, foreign open and open category; and 3rd prize in Indian cars 2,000 cc and above category.

Mr Gautam Singhania, Chairman and Managing Director, Raymond Group, won two 1st prizes, one in his Honda 2000 in the up to 2,000 cc category and the second in his Lotus Ellis in the 2,000-3,000 category.

The event was organised by Autocar and Hungama Events.
