CII offers skills development initiative to Afghanistan

IN order to aid reconstruction and development in Afghanistan, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has proposed to extend its `skills development initiative' to the country.
The industry chamber made a detailed presentation on skills development initiative, covering the concept and modalities of creating an indigenous skilled workforce in a meeting with the visiting Afghan President, Mr Hamid Karzai, and his cabinet colleagues, said a statement.
As a part of the initiative, Mr Subodh Bhargava, Past President, CII, and Chairman, Wartsila (India) Ltd, offered to train 25 nationals from Afghanistan on the power tool, useful for the construction industry. The 25 candidates would be selected in advance brought to India and trained. It is expected that they would act as trainers for other Afghan nationals on their return.
The power tool skill incorporates drilling, cutting, milling, chiselling of stone, wood, metal and concrete.
In the meeting with the President, CII proposed a range of skills in which training would be imparted. including construction, office and secretarial practice, communication, primary health care, hair dressing and beauty therapy.
