Events Fair crowd looks for Opportunities L.N. Revathy
A FAIR CHANCE: A group of students from the University of Calicut's MCA Centre at Vatakara were among the visitors from Kerala on the second day of `The Hindu - Opportunities Fair' in Coimbatore on Sunday. - K. Ananthan
Coimbatore , Feb. 27 THE momentum remained unabated with freshers and experienced job seekers pouring in large numbers at The Hindu Opportunities Fair. At the end of day two on Sunday, the number of registrations stood at 35,000. Job seekers started to queue up at least an hour or two before the registration time. Chartered accountants, entrepreneurs in the ITES business and professionals were among those who checked in early to eye the offers. Equally anxious to be employed were the technical and non-technical graduates/post-graduates and those in the final semester. Though the confirmed offers made by the participants both in the IT and ITES space were not available, a large number of applicants took the written test and attended interviews. There were others who just collected the resumes from the applicants, with an assurance that the interview letter would follow shortly. For companies like RM Education Solutions Pvt Ltd, a supplier of IT education software to the US, participating in the Fair was an image-building exercise. The Thiruvananthapuram-based company is looking at ramping its capacity and expanding operations into newer markets like Australia, New Zealand and South America, said the Human Resources Manager, Mr T.S. Muralidharan. "Our team size has grown to 151 from 40 in the last one year. We are planning to hire 150 more by December 2005. The response has been phenomenal and we are confident of hiring the right people," he told Business Line. The venue Codissia Trade Fair Complex wore a festive look. While there seemed to be no reservations among the job seekers in accepting a call centre job or a `night shift only' offer, mostly girls turned upat the medical transcription stall. Cognizant Technology Solutions, however, stole the show. Premier Evolvics, a co-sponsor to the event, also managed to establish a niche position.
