GMI hopes to make India centre for MR outsourcing

GLOBAL Market Insite (GMI), a Seattle-based provider of software solutions for market research, has launched its certification programme in India in a bid to create and tap a potential market research hub.

Five firms — Cross-Tab Marketing Services, Ugam Solutions, Dexterity Business Analysts, Annik Technology Services and Infotek Netalia — are being trained on GMI's Net-MR software in Mumbai; they would also be made aware of the needs of the market research industry.

There's an opportunity for BPO units and call centres in India as companies in the US and Europe, with a combined market of $19 billion, look at the cheaper option of outsourcing market research to such countries, according to Mr Suresh Subbiah, Director-Global Project Management of GMI.

But they would not outsource it without being assured of quality and standardisation, which is why such a certification could open a new avenue of revenue for market research and outsourcing firms in India, he said.

The company, which has spent Rs 30-40 lakh on the current programme, hopes to train around 100 firms in the country by the year-end. It is also considering allying with IT training institutes so that the latter could offer basic and advanced courses in GMI's market research software.

Training and certification programmes will help build a market for GMI's software here, Mr Subbiah said.

The company's next stop is China, for which it has earmarked $2,00,000. Malaysia and the Philippines will follow.

Its solutions, he claims, under the umbrella software Net-MR cater to a range of market research processes from data collection to analysis and presentation in online as well as offline modes.

GMI, founded by Mr Robert W. Monster, who was earlier a global product development manager with Procter & Gamble, is looking to tap the primary market in the US in the next 12 to 18 months.
