Sugar prices may decline

Our Bureau

Mumbai , March 3

SUGAR prices may come down from the current level on expectation of increase in supply for the current month.

The Government on Thursday said 15 days' extension would be allowed for mills to offload the free sale quota for February into the market to keep prices under control.

"As a result, prices may come down from the current level as supply is quite comfortable. Nearly one lakh tonnes of the total quota for February is reported to be unsold," a trader said. Thus, the total supply would be 13 lakh tonnes for the current month.

Sugar prices were up by Rs 30-35 to Rs 1,810-1,862 per quintal from Rs 1,760-1,790 per quintal for small grade and Rs 1,810-1,862 per quintal for medium grade in past three days.
