THE CII has asked the Tamil Nadu Government to establish solid waste disposal sites for industry at Melaikottyur and Gummidipoondi here.
In a statement, Mr N. Krishna Samaraj, Chairman, CII, Coimbatore Zone, said while he welcomed the Government's initiative to augment the resources of the urban local bodies around Chennai for providing infrastructural facilities for solid waste management, he urged the Government to establish solid waste disposal sites in Melaikottyur and Gummidipoondi. This would provide relief to the industry and address the growing concern about environment.
He said the CII looked forward to working closely with the Government on issues like promotion of self-help groups and in providing training for women and in building market linkages. Mr A. Sakthivel, President, Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Coimbatore, welcoming the announcements in the Tamil Nadu budget for giving a push to economic development, wanted the Chief Minister to consider implementation of the VAT system in Tamil Nadu.
Mr J. Balu, President, Coimbatore District Small Industries Association (Codissia), said the industry would benefit by the allocation of funds for supply of quality power in rural areas, improving highways and rural roads.
