Maran to seek industry views on Budget

Our Bureau

New Delhi , March 3

THE Minister for IT and Communications, Mr Dayanidhi Maran, today said he would seek views of the IT industry on the impact of Budget on the sector.

"We will meet industry representatives and get their opinion on the Budget announcements for the IT sector," Mr Maran said on the sidelines of a conference here.

Terming his Ministry as a bridge between the IT industry and Finance Ministry, Mr Maran said that the views expressed by the industry would be communicated to the Finance Ministry.

Mr Maran's comments assume significance as the IT hardware industry has expressed apprehension that the Budget announcement — while making the import of PCs and notebooks cheaper by about five per cent — could render made-in-India computers marginally more expensive. In addition, the software industry has expressed concern over the proposed tax on fringe benefits saying it would raise the tax burden on industry.
