Bank credit up by Rs 5,461 cr

GROSS bank credit has increased by Rs 5,461 crore for the fortnight ended February 18 to touch Rs 10,56,210, as per the latest RBI statistics.

This is inclusive of food credit, which decreased by Rs 1,466 crore to touch Rs 41,482 crore. Non-food credit was up by Rs 6,927 crore to touch Rs 10,14,728 crore.

The total accommodation provided by scheduled commercial banks to the commercial sector in the form of bank credit and investments in shares, debentures, bonds and commercial paper increased by Rs 2,09,090 crore to touch Rs 11,03,302 crore.

Loans and advances to the State Governments declined by Rs 279 crore to touch Rs 2,242 crore for the week ended February 25.
