Software Vignette to set up hybrid global development centre To expand R&D work V. Rishi Kumar
Hyderabad , March 6 VIGNETTE, a Texas-based and Nasdaq-listed technology provider for enterprises, has firmed up plans to expand its research and development teams in India that would complement its product development centres located in Austin and Sydney. The Vice-President of Engineering, Mr Leo Brunnick, told Business Line that the company with its range of products for enterprise information management and content management, has decided to expand its R&D work out of India by setting up a hybrid global development centre in partnership with Virtusa Corporation. Mr Brunnick said "Vignette partners with global consulting firms and systems integrators such as Accenture, Cap Gemini, EDS, IBM Global Services and independent software vendors to enable enterprises to optimise their technology resources. With blended teams and association with consultants, Vignette enables enterprises with portal integration, enterprise content management, collaboration and business workflow management solutions." "Vignette has decided to invest in strategic offshoring through a partnership with Virtusa Corporation. With a global development centre here, where about 140 developers would be based, Vignette would work as a single team with developers located in other centres in enhancing product features and building new products. The offshore GDC enhances our capability to develop products both cost effectively as also cut short time to market. This hybrid model, which is long-term, is a lot different from the established practice of build, own, operate and transfer model practiced by many product companies," he said. "This GDC model reflects a relationship of a vendor and a client where Vignette owns the IP created with this association. While we come up with specifications and road map, the domain expertise of Virtusa, particularly their productisation methodology, would help the seamless product development teams," Mr Brunnick said.
