Tea Spurt in Kochi tea prices Our Bureau
Kochi , March 6 A GOOD general demand resulted in increase in prices of almost all varieties of tea at the Kochi Tea auction. Of 9,30,000 kg on offer in the dust category, CTC market was steady to firm around last levels. Orthodox highgrowns were dearer, while medium was steady. According to details made available by Forbes, Ewart & Figgis, the best CTC varieties commanded prices between Rs 58-65, medium CTC realised Rs 53-56 and below medium were quoted Rs 38-47. Highgrown BOPD realised Rs 116, while medium BOPD fetched prices between Rs 41-46. Secondaries were quoted Rs 35-37. The leaf sale also witnessed a good general demand and the quantity on offer was 3,04,000 kg. Orthodox highgrown brokens and fannings tended to ease. Primary highgrown remained steady, while medium orthodox barely steady. Good liquoring and well-made CTCs were steady to sometimes dearer. Exporters to CIS were fairly active. The best Nilgiri varieties commanded prices between Rs 64-90, medium orthodox realised Rs 44-66. The best CTC leaf fetched prices between Rs 50-53, while medium CTC leaf realised Rs 45-50. In the dust category, Kodanaad Cl.BOPD fetched the best prices of Rs 116, followed by Pasuparai FD by Rs 94. In the leaf varieties, Craigmore Cl.BOP realised the best prices of Rs 158 followed by Chamraj FOP-Sup by Rs 130.
