Accidents 4 killed in Matrix Labs fire mishap Our Bureau

Hyderabad , March 6 FOUR persons were killed in a fire accident that took place in a production block of one of the manufacturing facilities of Matrix Laboratories Ltd, a pharmaceutical company, located at Kazipally near here on Saturday evening. According to the company, except the block where the fire accident took place, all the other production blocks in the facility remain unaffected. Since the accident took place in an intermediates manufacturing plant, the impact on the overall operations of the company would not be significant. In a press release here on Sunday, the company said none of the other units including the USFDA-approved facilities were affected by the accident. The company said it has adequate insurance coverage for all the losses related to the accident. The company has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 6 lakh each to the families of those who died in the accident. The company also said that it has decided to extend all possible help to the kith and kin of the deceased employees through Matrix Employees Welfare Trust (MEWA). Stating that it has been following stringent safety norms and procedures and as such there was no precedence of any accident, the company said the exact cause for the accident was being investigated. Mr Veeraiah, Deputy Manager at the Matrix plant, succumbed to severe burn injuries on Sunday at the Apollo Hospitals here. The condition of four employees injured is said to be critical. Meanwhile, the Bollaram police, under whose jurisdiction the plant comes, have registered cases against the Matrix management for negligence. In another development, a three-member team led by the Director of Factories which visited the explosion site on Sunday has begun probe into the mishap.
