Rubber slips on profit booking

Our Correspondent

Kottayam , March 7

PROFIT-booking at higher levels put pressure on spot rubber prices on Monday.

The Government's decision to reduce the tax rate on closing stocks to four per cent failed to hold the initial gains, though the market opened on a steady note.

According to market circles, buyers were more cautious on reports of rains from the southern districts of the State. Sheet rubber declined to Rs 54 against Rs 54.50 a kg on Saturday at Kottayam and Kochi.

The NMCE rubber futures turned weak with a decline in volumes.

The March contract was traded at Rs 54.05 (54.29), April contract at Rs 56.43 (Rs 56.61), May contract at Rs 58.24 (Rs 58.49) and June at Rs 59.62 (Rs 59.87) per kg for RSS 4.

Spot rubber prices per kg follow: RSS-4: Rs 54 (Rs 54.50); RSS-5: Rs 53 (Rs 53.50); ungraded: Rs 52 (Rs 52.75); ISNR 20: Rs 53.25 (Rs 53.75); and latex 60 per cent: Rs 39.50 (Rs 40)
