Economy Kerala CM stresses on private sector role in industry Our Bureau
Kasaragod , March 7 THE Kerala Chief Minister, Mr Oommen Chandy, has stressed the need for private participation in the State's industrial development. Inaugurating an industrial park of Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (Kinfra) at Seethangoli in Kasaragod, about 50 km from Mangalore, on Monday, he said, "Industrial development is not only the responsibility of the Government. The private sector should actively take part in the industrial development of the State." He said that Kinfra's responsibility is to provide infrastructure for the development of industries in the State. Mr Chandy urged the small-scale industries (SSIs) to set up their units at Kinfra Small Industries Park (K-SIP) at Kasaragod. Though Mr Chandy encouraged private participation in industrial development, he opined that major utilities should remain with the State sector only. The Chief Minister said that he participated in seven Kinfra-related functions in the past six months. During this period, three new Kinfra industrial parks were opened, he added. The Kerala Minister for Industries, Mr V.K. Ebrahim Kunju, who presided over the function, said that the Government will make all efforts for the industrial development of Kasaragod district. Walk-in and manufacture: In an chat with Business Line earlier, the Kinfra Managing Director, Mr G.C. Gopala Pillai, said that K-SIP would provide `walk-in and manufacture' environment to entrepreneurs through its single-window clearance scheme. The first phase of K-SIP is being developed on 60 acres of land at Seethangoli in Kasaragod. Fifteen industrial units have promised to set up their units at K-SIP in Kasaragod. Of them, eight have already begun functioning there.
