Bangalore , March 8

THE city-based SoCrates Software India, has been acquired by Toshiba, to become a major hub in the latter's software development organisation.

The three-year-old company, which developed embedded software for Toshiba's system-on-chip products, has been acquired with its 180-employees on board for an undisclosed amount. The acquisition gives Toshiba the largest presence in India of any of Japan's semiconductor companies, according to a SoCrates announcement.

Toshiba, which focuses on the mobile consumer, mobile communications, automotive and intelligent office market segments, acquired SoCrates its preferred partner to reinforce the latter's capability to deliver embedded solutions.
