Shipping Eukor, Chennai Port Trust in talks for business tie-up Our Bureau
Chennai , March 9 EUKOR, a car carrier vessel owning company that carries Hyundai cars from Chennai port, has shown interest in entering into a business tie up with Chennai Port Trust (ChPT). Mr Carl-Johan Hagman, President and CEO, Eukor, and Mr S.H. Park, Vice-President, Eukor, South Korea, along with representatives of Parikh Marine Services visited the port on Wednesday and held discussions on such a tie up, a ChPT press release says. Officials of Eukor, which is the second largest car carrier company in the world, visited West Quay I and II berths where car carriers are normally berthed, and expressed happiness about facilities in the port, the release says. During this fiscal, the Chennai port handled 75,812 Hyundai export cars, which was sent to various destinations of Europe and Africa. The highest volume of cars export from the port was to Algeria (11,795), Italy (11,583) and Mexico (17,952). The port handled 39 different capacity pure car carriers, the release said.
