Water from Jhanjavathi for Visakhapatnam

Our Bureau

HYDERABAD: The State Government is exploring the possibility of utilising the floodwaters of Jhanjavathi for supplying drinking water to Visakhapatnam, Bobbili, Parvathipuram, Vizianagaram, Bhimli and Salur and also to meet 10 per cent of the water requirement of the industries in the area.

TheMinister for Major Irrigation, Mr Ponnala Laxmaiah, told newspersons here on Wednesday that officials of the departments concerned were asked to make a study in this regard and submit a report to the Government in 15 days.

He said that it was proposed to utilise two to three TMC of the floodwaters by constructing small balancing reservoirs at Tadipudi and other places. The proposal was mooted as water realisation through pumping from Dawaleswaram had declined to 50 per cent.
