On a 'spirit'ual high!

According to a survey conducted in December last, per capita spending on liquor in the State is Rs 720, and average consumption 3.11 litres of alcohol. A survey in March, 2001 had fixed the respective figures at Rs 420 and 2.04 litres of alcohol. About 7.30 lakh cases of Indian made foreign liquor were sold in the State between December 2004 and January 2005. There are 351 licensed foreign liquor shops, 512 bar hotels and 4,362 toddy shops in the State.
