Madurai , March 10

TWENTY-seven elected panchayat representatives from Tirunelveli district have set off to Rawatbhata near Kota in Rajasthan on a visit to the nuclear plants there to study and report on the development of villages around the plants.

According to the Project Director of Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project, Mr S.K. Agarwal, the representatives would be taken around the villages near the nuclear plants to see developments taking place there. The nuclear plants are over 30 years.

Currently, it has four units - one 200 MW, one 150 MW, two 220 MW and two more units of 220 MW are under construction. The visit will help to dispel the fears if any among the people around KKNPP site here, he added.

The Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd is bearing the expenses of the visit.
