Kolkata , March 10

GE Healthcare's engineering and scientific set-up in Bangalore has played a "significant" role in the development of the global healthcare equipment major's High Definition Magnetic Resonance (HDMR) system, the national launch of which has been announced here. The HDMR system has been priced in the Rs 5.5-6-crore range in India.

At a news conference, Mr V. Raja, President & CEO (South Asia) of GE Healthcare Technologies, said critical software applications for the HDMR system had been developed in Bangalore. The company's team there has been engaged in developing critical software applications for GE Healthcare's global offerings, he said, adding that a part of the hardware design element was also being developed in India.

Mr Raja said GE Healthcare's annualised turnover from its operations in India was around $350 million. This included exports worth $250 million to GE's global operations.

He said the HDMR system would provide physicians image clarity in cases where patients are difficult to manage on account of movement, including uncontrollable patient motion owing to Parkinson's disease, trauma, stroke and paediatric patients who do not respond to sedation.
