Wipro process consulting practice picking up pace

Our Bureau

Bangalore , March 10

WIPRO Technologies said on Thursday that its process consulting practice was gaining momentum and sees good traction. Process consulting is part of the IT consulting practice of Wipro and the company offers services such as business process improvement, process re-engineering, six sigma consulting, and CMM/CMMI gap analysis under process consulting.

The process consulting practice was carved out into a separate revenue stream about two years ago from the in-house team at Wipro that implemented processes such as six sigma.

"We have started talking about our process consulting practice as we consider it has gained critical mass," Mr Sambuddha Deb, Chief Quality Officer, Wipro Technologies.

The segment, which focuses on verticals such as energy and retail at present and generated revenues of around $20 million for the first nine months in the current fiscal, a growth of over 100 per cent over last year, Mr Deb said.

Going forward the process consulting practice would outpace the company's growth and grow at a faster clip, he added.

Wipro has a team of about 150 consultants in its process consulting practice.

Wipro competes with players such as Accenture directly in this area. Process consulting, Mr Deb said, brings in the deep insights into our domain expertise. "We showcase our success with implementation of six sigma at Wipro to our prospective customers," he added.

The implementation of six sigma processes has improved efficiencies at Wipro by 6-8 per cent and the company on an annual basis saves about Rs 200 crore because of the improved efficiencies.
