Mangalore , March 10

HUTCHISON Essar South launched a unique concept, `Hutch shop on wheels', here on Thursday.

Speaking to presspersons after inaugurating the service, Mr Samuel Selvakumar, Operations Director, Hutchison Essar South, said this would cater to the needs of customers in coastal Karnataka, including Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts.

Such a service was launched in India for the first time in Bangalore six months ago. About 80 transactions are being processed everyday in Hutch shop on wheels in Bangalore.

He said that Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts form a contiguous cluster for providing such a service. "This innovative retailing concept will enable current and potential customers to walk into the Hutch shop on wheels, parked at key locations in various towns of these districts, to get the services that are available in 19 Hutch shops across Karnataka," he said.

At present there are 10 Hutch shops in Bangalore, one each in Mysore, Hubli, Belgaum, Davangere, Gulbarga, Bellary, Shimoga and Mangalore.

Mr Selvakumar said a 24x7 payment kiosk would be set up at the second Hutch shop in the next two months. He said Hutch Karnataka, which has a subscriber base of 5.21 lakh customers, is available across 142 towns in the State.
