Politics AP truckers not to carry people for Sonia's meeting Our Bureau
Hyderabad , March 11 TRUCKERS in the State have decided not to carry people to meetings scheduled to be addressed by Ms Sonia Gandhi, President of Congress Party, next week. The transporters' Joint Action Committee has decided not to allow passengers in their vehicles citing the Motor Vehicle Act. "The Act said trucks could carry only goods but not passengers," Mr Chand Patel, Convener of JAC, said. The truckers' decision seemed to be triggered by cases slapped by the Transport Authority on operators for transporting people. In a press release here on Friday, he said the JAC had the support of the Andhra Pradesh Local Lorry Association, the State Motor Transport Operators Association, and all the district transporters' associations in the State. "We will not allow a single truck for the purpose of carrying public from all the districts for Ms Sonia Gandhi's programme," he said.
