Plastics recycling units form organisation

Our Bureau

Kolkata , March 13

THE Centre for Quality Management System (CQMS) of Jadavpur University is taking the lead role in bringing the Rs 10,000-crore plastics waste recycling industry in the unorganised sector under an umbrella association.

The university is also offering indigenously developed eco-friendly solutions to the industry, which is facing threats of closure or relocation across the country.

In a press release issued recently, CQMS said that a Federation of Indian Plastics Recycling Industries (FIPRI) had been formed in Kolkata. Apart from organising the plastic waste recycling units listed under the red and orange categories by the pollution control boards, the newly formed federation will also encourage entrepreneurship in the sector.

Aiming at working together with Government departments and especially with the pollution control authorities, FIPRI has already sought financial assistance for adopting eco-friendly production methods.

In a recent meeting with the West Bengal Pollution Control Board, the federation has requested the withdrawal of the existing bar on operations during certain times of the day.

A rally has also been organised in Kolkata to promote the bin culture and popularise waste plastic recycling.
