Tightening the screws

A houseboat on the backwaters of Kochi. The State Pollution Control Board and Water Resources Department have initiated action against houseboats without pollution control measures that include sewage treatment plants, replacement of outboard engines with inboard ones, replacement of plastic items and construction of dry waste disposal facility. According to PCB officials, 70 houseboats have applied for clearance certificates and 35 of them have been inspected.
