IITs to offer new courses

THE Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) have decided to start new courses at three locations from the 2005-06 academic sessions in various areas including nanoscience.

Also a number of additional courses in the areas of waste-water science and environmental science are being planned for introduction from the 2005-06 academic session or subsequently, according to an official release.

While the new courses at IIT Bombay include a five-year integrated dual degree programme in B.Tech (Engineering Physics) and M.Tech with specialisation in nanoscience; those at IIT Kharagpur include a five-year integrated dual degree programme in B.Tech (Hons) in any branch of engineering and MBA, five-year integrated M.Sc. course in Statistics and Information. IIT Kanpur will start a five-year integrated M.Sc. Economics programme.

Other IITs are also finalising new courses depending on the availability of the infrastructure. The IITs also plan to introduce a number of additional courses from the 2006-07 academic session or subsequently.
