Tremor rocks Mumbai

MODERATE intensity tremors were felt in Mumbai and adjoining areas as an earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale hit the Koyna region in western Maharashtra on Monday.

The officials at the Regional Meteorological Centre said that the tremor was felt at 3:14 p.m. with the epicentre at Koyna region. No casualties or damage to property has been reported. Mr Thakur Prasad, Regional Meteorological Centre, said that the seismic activity was off moderate intensity with no aftershocks. The Koyna region is prone to tremors, he added.
