TDP stages walkout again

Our Bureau

Hyderabad , March 15

MEMBERS of the opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) staged a walkout from the Andhra Pradesh Assembly on Tuesday in protest against the Government not fulfilling its electoral promise of enhancing old age and widow's pension from Rs 75 to Rs 225 per month.

Taking exception to the State Government increasing the pension amount to just Rs 100 instead of the promised Rs 225, the TDP Deputy Leader, Mr T. Devender Goud, said that this amounted to cheating the people.

Earlier, replying to a question raised by Mr Ranganayakulu and Mr G. Sayanna during question hour, the Minister for Rural Development, Mr D. Srinivas, said that the pension amount would be increased to Rs 225 in a phased manner.

Intervening during the discussion, the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, assured the House that all election promises made by the Congress, including construction of 40 lakh houses for the poor, would be implemented.
