`Bio-fuel makers do not want subsidy'

Our Bureau

Hyderabad , March 16

THE manufacturers of bio-fuels do not want any subsidies and they also do not want the Government to meddle with the micro management of bio-fuels.

"Leave it (micro management) to the manufacturers. Create a policy with specific timeframe," Mr C.S. Bhaskar of Naturol Fuels Ltd said.

Participating in a workshop on adoption of bio-fuels as alternative fuels in the transport sector, he said the US and European Governments offered no subsidies on bio-fuels. "They just de-taxed them to encourage them as alternative fuels," he said.

The workshop was organised by the Administrative Staff College of India. Presenting the views of the Central Research Institute for Dry land Agriculture, a representative said economies of scale and lowering of cost would take place when the bio-duel programme gathers momentum.

"More waste and degraded land can be put to effective use. This would also increase green cover," he said. The country needs to have industry-friendly policies, he added.
