THE Finance Ministry-appointed expert committee to review the Fringe Benefit Tax (FBT) provisions under the Finance Bill 2005 is to meet here on Thursday.

Besides Dr Parthasarathy Shome, Advisor to the Union Finance Minister and Chairman of the expert committee, the members of the committee include representatives of apex industry chambers and Institute of Chartered Accountants of India.

Indications are that the expert committee would have its deliberations on the matter for two days and that the entire gamut of issues on FBT would be taken up for discussion.

While corporate India is keen that FBT should go, the current thinking in the Ministry is that the concerned provisions could at best be fine-tuned.
