PHDCCI celebrates hundred years

Our Bureau

New Delhi , March 17

THE Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, will inaugurate on March 21 the centennial celebrations of the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The chamber, which was set up in 1905, has planned a series of business and social events during the year-long celebrations, the PHDCCI President, Mr K.N. Memani, told reporters here.

Elaborating on the PHDCCI's agenda for the centennial year, Mr Raghupati Singhania, Chairman of the Centennial Celebrations Committee, said that the chamber would, in the coming year, "cajole" the State Governments to take bolder decisions.

"Unless we take hard decisions today, we will not be able to exploit the opportunities that are available before us. There is lot of potential for turning the country into a large manufacturing base", Mr Singhania, who is also the Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of J.K.Industries, said.
