BT Infonet plans nodes in Chennai, Hyderabad

BT Infonet, a provider of managed network services for multinational companies, plans to expand network by introducing nodes in Chennai and Hyderabad as well as upgrading existing nodes at Bangalore, Mumbai and Delhi.

"We see demand for the full suite of services and have found that we can address the needs of technology companies, particularly those with a large network outside India, including the BPO sector," said Mr J. A. Collazo, Chairman, President and CEO.

Mr Collazo, who expects BT Infonet's investments in the Indian network to touch $20 million, said that with these additional points of presence, multinationals will now be able to access BT Infonet's suite of communications services, including IP VPN Secure, IP VPN Internet, IP Voice and IP Video VPN services, and call centre solutions. "Multinationals in India will also benefit from greater network density and reduced local access costs, via direct connections to these new points of presence."

BT Infonet India's investment in this additional infrastructure and bandwidth provides its customers with improved access diversity as well as support for an increased range of services and protocols, said Mr Prakash Jain, Chairman and CEO, Infonet India.

Mr Callazo said BT Infonet's customers include Wipro Technologies and L&T Infotechand "in addition, we have seen strong demand for our business-grade Internet and MPLS services from institutions such as Software Technology Parks of India".
