Railways to conduct training programme for BIMSTEC personnel

New Delhi , March 18

AS a part of the Government's look East policy, the Indian Railways will conduct a training programme for the Railway personnel from Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral, Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) countries from March 21 to April 2.

The course, to be organised at the Railway Staff College, Vadodara, is likely to be attended by four participants each from Sri Lanka, Thailand and Bangladesh; two from Myanmar and one from Bhutan, said an official release. Five participants from India would also join the course organised by the Delhi-based Asian Institute of Transport Management.

The programme, held in pursuance of the decision taken at the first meeting of the Railway Chief Executive Officers of BIMSTEC countries (Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Thailand) held here in September 2004, will be "offered free of cost".

According to the statement, the first course for the member countries of the (BIMSTEC), being organised in `Multi Modal Transport', will be held in two parts - academic at Railway Staff College, Vadodara from March 21 to 26; and field training by Container Corporation of India from March 27 to April 2.
