`Tap water sources to curb crisis'

HYDERABAD: With 32 of the 52 mandals in Prakasam district recording a shortfall of 40 per cent in average annual rainfall, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, directed officials to tap a variety of sources to address the drinking water problems.

One of the proposals was to utilise water from springs in the Nallamala forests.

The Chief Minister mentioned a proposal to construct a storage tank and lay an 18-km pipeline at Rs 12 crore to draw water from the springs to cater to the Giddalur mandal.

The District Collector, Ms B. Udayalakshmi, submitted proposals for taking up six pending projects.
