SJS Enterprises bags order from US co

Bangalore , March 19

SJS Enterprises, a company manufacturing self-adhesive labels, logos, facia and dials for the electronics, automobile and appliances companies, has hit the `global track' after bagging an order from Maytag, the third largest appliances company in the US. Started by three entrepreneurs in 1987, SJS is already aiming to achieve a turnover of Rs 100 crore in two years.

"It is not a tall order," say the three promoter-directors who nurtured the company against stiff competition from the unorganised sector.

The company grew with the sudden demand for the self-adhesive embellishments used by leading companies such as Toyota, General Motors, Whirlpool, TVS and Godrej. The MNCs, which set shop here, were attracted by the 30 per cent cost advantage over the imports and contributed to SJS's current growth of 22 per cent. The company plans to make an additional investment of Rs 5.5 crore to Rs 13 crore. It has already set up a design centre and increased the capacity to become a fully integrated facility.

It achieved a turnover of Rs 20 crore last year, 40 per cent of which came from supplies to automobile companies. The remaining was split equally between exports and advertisement and appliances.

The three directors said: "We expect our exports to grow by more than 300 per cent as we are looking at the Indian subsidiaries of the MNCs to become suppliers to them in their countries."

With India emerging as a hub for many MNCs for manufacturing and IT related products, SJS hopes to carve a position for itself in the Rs 500-crore market.
