TN chamber pushes for VAT implementation

Our Correspondent

Madurai , March 20

THE Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry has yet again urged the Chief Minister, Ms J. Jayalalithaa, to implement the VAT system in the State from April 1.

In a statement, the Chamber President, Mr S. Rethinavelu, has said that the State cannot stand alone when the neighbouring States have implemented the system, as it would trigger flight of trade and industry.

The Finance Minister himself has pointed out unequivocally the various advantages while presenting the Budget in the Assembly. "All political parties in the State also support and welcome the introduction of VAT. The Government should not take into consideration the baseless opposition without any rhyme or reason entertained by a few in the State."
