Greenpeace to hold rally for clean water

GREENPEACE, a non-profit organisation dealing with environment-related issues, and representatives of six communities of the country have joined hands to organise a rally to push for clean water, clean air, clean - food and a toxic-free future.
The rally, `Take Action Now', coinciding with the World Water Day on Tuesday, is being led by activists from Bhopal who survived the gas tragedy 20 years ago.
The Kodaikanal community, joining later, plans to protest against mercury poisoning of their pristine hill forests.
Activists from Eloor, Paradip, Patancheru and Delhi would also join the rally to call attention to the "environmental havoc caused by the unregulated companies, chemical poisoning, malpractices of the factories and poisoned sea-inlets.
"With the ground water impacted by pollution and chemicals, we need to take some immediate steps," the Media Officer of Greenpeace India, Ms Namrata Chowdhary, said adding that uncontrolled release of the chemical waste in water bodies had threatened the eco-system and species dependent on them.
The activists would also submit a memorandum to the President and the Prime Minister, seeking an immediate action on these issues.
