`World Water Day'

NEW DELHI: The Water Resources Minister, Mr Priyaranjan Dasmunshi, will inaugurate a national function to mark the World Water Day on March 22.

The function has technical sessions including presentations by various experts on the idea `Water for life'. Various ministries, non-governmental organisations and United Nations System operating in the field of water resources, have come together for the purpose, said a release.

The speakers include the Delhi Chief Minister, Ms Shiela Dixit, and the Member of Planning Commission, Dr Kirit Parikh. Dr Parikh will also deliver the Kanwar Sain Memorial Lecture.

The celebration will mark the curtain raiser for Water Resources Day 2005, which will be observed later in April. The theme for the day will be `Economic development of perennially flood prone areas".
