Bank unions claim strike success

Our Bureau

Hyderabad , March 22

THE Andhra Pradesh unit of the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU), comprising nine national level bank unions, has claimed that the strike on Tuesday was a total success.

Banking operations were totally hit and clearing operations did not take place, with several bank employees participating in the centralised rally held before the State Bank of India office here, the UFBU Convenor, Mr B. S. Rambabu, said in a press release.

Bank unions had called for a nationwide strike opposing the merger and acquisition of public sector banks, the foreign stake of Indian private sector banks and allowing 74 per cent foreign direct investment.
