National Mineral Award for 26 geo-scientists

THE Government today awarded 26 geo-scientists the National Mineral Award for 2003. The awards were presented by the Minister for Mines, Mr Sis Ram Ola.
Presenting the awards, the Minister called upon the geo-scientists community to understand and respond to the unpredictable behaviour of nature, so that human sufferings due to natural hazards such as earthquake and tsunami are minimised.
The Minister of State for Coal and Mines, Mr Dasari Narayana Rao, said that as a result of liberalised policy, 73 FDI proposals have been approved by the FIPB with an expected inflow of more than Rs 4,044 crore.
He added that India continues to be the largest cutting and polishing centre for diamonds and imports, with more than 85 per cent of the global output of gem variety of rock diamonds produced in the world. The annual turnover from export of cut and polished diamonds was Rs 35,850 crore accounting for about 14 per cent of all commodities exported.
