Mumbai , March 23

GREAT Eastern Shipping has contracted a second-hand dry bulk carrier of about 46,000 DWT. The carrier built in 2000 is expected to join its fleet in the first quarter of next fiscal.

A company press release said that, apart from this vessel, two modern Handymax dry bulk carriers are also scheduled to be delivered during this period.

Currently, the company has nine dry bulk carriers with an average age of about 21 years.

With these three vessels, its dry bulk tonnage will go up by about 42 per cent, while the average age will reduce to 16.3 years.

The company's new building order book of $210 million comprises 14 vessels, including six tankers.
