New Delhi , March 23

GUJARAT Fluorochemicals Ltd (GFL), a refrigerant gas manufacturing company, has received the country's first project registration from the Executive Board of Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), established under the Kyoto Protocol.

GFL's project has received this registration for Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction by Thermal Oxidation of HFC 23, at Gujarat, informed a release. HFC 23 is a greenhouse gas with global warming potential equivalent to 11,700 tonnes of carbon dioxide.

As per the Kyoto Protocol, GFL will now be able to trade the carbon credit that will accrue to it as a result of this CDM project implementation, in international markets, to corporate entities of developed economies.

This is India's first and the world's third project to be registered as a CDM by the board, added the release.
