Yahoo! Mail to offer 1GB free storage

YAHOO! Mail on Thursday announced plans to upgrade the storage capacity for its free users worldwide to one gigabyte (1GB).

Yahoo! Mail users from India on www.yahoo.co.in will be also be upgraded simultaneously with the rest of the world to 1GB of free storage.

The 1GB storage upgrade represents an increase of more than four times the 250 megabytes (MB) of space that Yahoo! Mail users currently enjoy for free.

"The global roll-out will begin in late April, which will make Yahoo! Mail the largest e-mail provider to deliver 1GB of storage space for free to consumers worldwide," a company release said.

Yahoo! Mail also announced that it has expanded its suite of security tools with virus cleaning for free, from Norton AntiVirus in addition to the virus scanning already offered.

"Our endeavour has always been to provide our Indian users with innovations and product enhancements," said Mr Neville Taraporewalla, Country General Manager, Yahoo! India.

Yahoo! also offers consumers 20MB attachment limits, along with Spam Guard, AddressGuard and other features.
