`Indian ad agencies gaining recognition'

Mangalore , March 25

MR Ramesh Narayan, Managing Director of Canco Advertising Pvt Ltd, Mumbai, has said that there is excellent scope for Indian advertising professionals.

Addressing members of the Mangalore-Manipal chapter of Public Relations Society of India (PRSI) in Mangalore on Thursday, he said that there will be exponential growth in the advertising industry in the years to come.

Stating that there has been remarkable shift in the attitude of multinational advertising agencies, he said earlier they used to handle only multinational advertisers. Today they want to handle Indian advertisers also.

Of the more than 800 accredited advertising agencies in India, nearly 80 agencies account for more than 75 per cent of business. Of the top 10 agencies among them, nine were multinational agencies.

Even Indian agencies have understood the market for this industry. Apart from handling domestic clients, most of the Indian agencies are venturing into overseas market, he said.

Though advertisement business is big in China, it is completely controlled by multinational agencies, and the domestic industry has not come up there.

He hoped that services will be the next big thing for the advertising industry, in addition to products. Telecom, insurance and health service providers are spending on advertisements to boost their growth.

Though companies spend on advertisements to acquire customers, they should also give importance for retaining the old customers. He said retention of customer is not treated on par with acquiring customers.
