THE Centre on Friday said that it has decided to absorb senior officers (in Group A Service) in Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) with effect from October 1, 2000 at their option.

After the corporatisation of MTNL and BSNL, the issue of absorption of these senior officers was under consideration, according to an official statement.

These officers belong to the Indian Telecom Service , Telegraph Traffic Service, Telecom Factory Service, Post & Telegraphs Accounts and Finance Service , Posts & Telegraphs Building Works Service and General Central Service.
